Zabibu translated, mean sweet grapes! The home / school is located in Ruiru; 25 minutes drive from the city center. This is a special school with special needs. The center’s dream is to give children who mentally or physically challenged a chance to lead normal lives by impacting specials skills and knowledge into them from a young age. The special students found within the center are between the ages of five and 20. Though some of the students are normal, they are among many whom are visually impaired, mentally and physically challenged with others being both affected and infected with HIV/AIDS. Others are orphans and vulnerable children whereas some suffer from diseases such cerebral palsy, multiple disorders and have emotional, behavioral issues. Though challenged by either physical or emotional well being and could be looked upon by the rest of the world as a lost cause, Zabibu has proved that there is no such thing as useless person and everyone of us is called upon to better the lives of these students in anyway possible. |

Zabibu badly needs speech therapists amongst other skilled volunteers to help the students help their speech and dictions. Anyone involved in this type of special education and practical skill would be a big bonus to the home. People who understand and have the ability to pass on braille knowledge can work with blind whereas those who are well versed with computer skills targeted towards the blind and the physically challenged will come in very handy. Currently the school has one computer but lacks software programs such as ‘jaws’, which allows the blind to learn computer skills. Other skills taught at the school includes knitting and sewing. There is also secretarial and formal education. Medics could also get attached to the home to monitor the student’s health, as they need a lot of medical attention on an ongoing basis. |

Many who have visited East African cities, have an impression that, “Nairobi is East Africa’s hub of fun". The city is awash with standard fun bobbling joints for the young and the old alike. Nairobi is the only city in the world where one can go for a game drive in the wild, thus, weekends out to the Nairobi National Park could be in order. There is also the Nairobi Safari Walk, Animal orphanage, a giraffe and an elephant sanctuary where one could get to kiss a giraffe lip to lip. For a cultural night out a visit to the Bomas of Kenya, will leave you thrilled and educated about various Kenyan traditional cultures, music, food and history. Our staff can organise and help you with your out of volunteering activities.
