Education Training
institute. Near Nairobi. Teach skills to young adults in Kenya.
The training institute is situated near Kikuyu
town, 45 minutes drive away from Nairobi’s city centre.
Kikuyu is one of the up and coming towns
on the outskirts of Nairobi. With a
climate pattern that is characterized by warm sunny mornings and chilly
nights. Kikuyu is in beautiful
tropical lush green surroundings all year round.
The society here embraces a culture that cradles between ancient tradition and
modernity – a perfect place to experience Kenyan country life not
too far away
from full blown civilization. |

It is said, “Give a needy person fish and doom
him, but teach the same person how to fish and secure his or her future for
the better and forever.
At the centre, volunteer'(s) gets the chance to teach
a needy community how to fish by passing the knowledge and skills they have
acquired in life – It could either be a profession or a skill that simply
occurs to one naturally.
A secretary, a hair dresser, an accountant or an engineer can effect change
in this society and the country at large by passing on what they have learnt
over the years with an aim of inspiring hope and sowing seeds that would
bear the fruits of employment, creating human capital, hence a future for
Kenya.
Whether a group of students, professionals or an individual, teaching a
group of youths either basic computer skills, languages (French or English)
or communication skills could mean all the difference to a teenager whose
life could otherwise be melted and get blown away with drugs, prostitution
or an early marriage. Such efforts would enable them secure jobs as
secretaries or clerks in nearby towns for a better future.
Courses offered here include; computer packages like Ms Word, Excel
etc. There are also secretarial courses, Hair dressing and beauty,
Accounting, engineering and languages (English and French)
The institute is one of the best in the region having received a number of
accolades from the government and renowned international bodies. |

This program would best suit any one with
interested in a steady and better Kenya, an effect that could reverberate to
the rest of Africa. A good all round placement where
people from all walks of life can be free to contribute their skills and
knowledge to young Kenyans.
For funded groups or
those
who wish to empower others and give them a skill that would benefit them and
those depending on them for the rest of their lives.
For Instance, it currently takes about Ksh.2000 (
$12) for one to learn two important programs like Ms Word and Excel.
This means that, if a group or an individual has US$ 1000, it possible to
spice up the volunteering experience by going round the village to select a
group of 35 young and needy people that they could take to the institute and
imprint computer skills in them- changing their capabilities forever.
Professional courses like engineering are more expensive but the
same could be done.
So
if you come on your own or in a group there are plenty of opportunity's to
teach actual valid skills to the students. |

Volunteers will be accommodated within the
institute’s compound by a very hospitable family. (see
pic) Food will be provided. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and
safe.

This program would suit an individual or groups
of people who believes in skilled man power. It is a program meant for real
agents of change, whether societal or economic. So from
students with computer knowledge to hairdressers or businessmen to older
couples, this is a varied and interesting placement that most people could
find very rewarding from the outset. |

Though Kikuyu town is developing rapidly, there
are much extra curriculum activities one can take upon. This is however no
problem since Nairobi is only 45 minute away.
Many who have visited East African cities, have an impression that, “Nairobi
is East Africa’s hub of fun”.
The city is awash with standard fun bobbling joints for the young and the
old alike.
Nairobi is the only city in the world where one can go for a game drive in
the wild, thus, weekends out to the Nairobi National Park could be in order.
There is also the Nairobi Safari Walk, Animal orphanage, a giraffe and an
elephant sanctuary, where one could get to kiss a giraffe lip to lip.
For a cultural night out a visit to the Bomas of Kenya, will leave you
thrilled and educated about various Kenyan traditional cultures, music and
history.
One could also climb Mount Longonot, two hours drive from the city, for
skilled climbers, Inspire Kenya will be more than glad to organize her
volunteers a climb up Africa’s second highest point – Mount Kenya. The
mountain’s icy peaks of Batian (5199m) and Nelion (5,189m) are accessible
only to experienced mountaineers,
Kenyans are uniquely hospitable people, intelligent and out going. A chat
with them over a drink after a hard day’s work could be equally a fun.
Inspire can advise and help plan any additional activities volunteers with
to undertake.
