Though a volunteer’s work at the school would
essentially be pivoted on teaching, there is a myriad of other things do to. The school lacks proper desks, classrooms amongst other things. Therefore in addition to teaching, a volunteer could take on initiatives, such as buying timber (which is very cheap) and nail them together to make better desks, paint the school, offer counseling to children who are also deprived emotionally, thus in dire need of brotherly, sisterly, fatherly or motherly love. The school is linked to an orphanage where volunteers could also share some time. Because foods like rice and beans are cheap in Kenya, one could initiate a feeding program for school and give the children energy to take on the next lesson in class with a wider concentration span, sharpen their knowledge and give them hope for a better future. Day to day work would be teaching individuals as well as groups. The school would be flexible and allow you to help in anyway that you would find comfortable. They, like most schools would be grateful of just having an extra pair of hands to help out. |

Anyone with a desire to help children from a poor community. The program would also suit people wishing to volunteer in groups of between two and ten. Such groups could paint the school, make desks, construct buildings or simply teach the children and inspire them for the better. Be ready for a warm reception!

A carefully selected host family will accommodate individual volunteers. Those coming in groups will be accommodated in hotels or guesthouses that have been carefully vetted for safety and basic comfort issues. As with all our placements food and bottled water is provided. The school is close to small shops and only a bus 30min bus journey into Mombasa town. Located only a walk away is the beaches of Mombasa and the main short ferry that links the south coast with Mombasa city. We also have in house accommodation at Likoni that does have water and electric. This also has an upgrade to an apartment, self catering although we provide the food. This facility is close to the beach and has a swimming pool for volunteers on a secure compound.

This program would suit anyone who would like to
offer a helping hand whether in a small or big way and achieve a life long
satisfaction. The children and teachers here love
visitors and would be attentive to all of your needs. Kenyan children are
also great fun. You would find a lot of time for fun and laughter here. Yet, you must also be prepared for hash realities of life with regard to the levels of poverty and suffering. |

It
is usually said of Kenya that, “A visit to Kenya without a stop at Mombasa
is no visit to Kenya” |
