Volunteering and vacation / holiday breaks in Kenya or Sri Lanka

If you only have limited time to visit Kenya these breaks offer you the opportunity to volunteer with orphans then get some time to relax by the beach or take a safari. A genuinely rewarding vacation within two weeks for those people who can get away from work for long.

The first week you will spend helping at the Nairobi children's home. Here you spend time with the orphans assisting in the many tasks it takes to operate an orphanage. Cooking, cleaning, helping dress, wash and entertain the children many of which have not a single family member alive. The home also has a teaching facility where you can spend time with groups of children learning basic maths and English or helping them draw pictures. You will be based in a secure and comfortable host family who will attend to you every need. Spending time with a family gives you education into the lives of Kenyans and they will afford you any level of privacy you require. Here, all of your meals and drinks will be provided and you will have access to the garden where you can relax under the sun if you wish.

The second week you move to a local hotel in Nairobi. At a time to suit you we will take you on a city tour encompassing the historic home of Karen “Out of Africa” Blixen. Have a wander and a drink in the serene garden setting. After that, proceed to the Giraffe Center where you will be offered the unique opportunity to hand feed Rothschild Giraffes. After a day of touring a stop at the famous Carnivore restaurant provides an excellent place to sample succulent barbequed game meat and an extensive choice of well varied dishes. On another day we will take you for a full days Safari at Nairobi National Park. The Park featuring the highest concentration of black rhinos in the World. Time permitting you then call to the Animal Orphanage where wounded and orphaned animals are nursed back to health. You will have the comfort of you own private car so will be able to stop for any amount of time to catch Lions or other wildlife with your camera.

The rest of the week you can relax by the pool of your hotel or go shopping the many markets and bargain stores of the city. Our staff will be on hand the whole week should you need guidance, advice or assistance. Accommodation is based on bed and breakfast. 2 Weeks €1099

Your first week will be spent in one of our Nairobi children's homes. Working along side the existing staff you will help with the day to day tasks of caring for 30 or more little orphans who are in an ever increasing number in Kenya. From clothing and feeding then to teaching or just spending time in the grounds playing under the sun your contribution is rewarding and invaluable to the many understaffed homes in Kenya where a new orphan is created every five minutes due to poverty and Aids. Like our other placement you will be staying with a host family who will look after your every need. You meals, drinks and laundry provided in a comfortable, safe and relaxed atmosphere.

After a week you will head for Mombasa on the overnight "Jambo Kenya Deluxe" This historic railway line crosses some stunning landscapes. Look out for impala, giraffe, ostrich and other game whilst taking breakfast in the restaurant car in the Mombassa to Nairobi direction.

Once in Mombasa you will spend a week in the Indiana beach resort. This is Bed and breakfast and is close to the white sand beaches of northern Mombasa. During the week you can explore the marine parks of the area, the historic fort of Mombasa or take a trip to Tsavo for a safari before returning to Nairobi to catch your flight home. Rooms come with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool.
